Generation featured 4, brand new hands-on touring exhibitions visiting 4 venues in the North of England.
The venues wanted to create exhibitions that were really appealing to a family audience showing that contemporary art can inspire every generation.
The exhibitions aimed to be very different from the hands-off culture often associated with modern art shows. Visitors of all ages were free to touch, run around and make noise.
Every part of the visit experience was carefully considered so that families felt happy and comfortable inside their galleries.
It all started with Generation AIR and Generation NOISE touring the 4 venues between September 2014 and October 2015.
Musical Chairs and The Tree, The Caterpillar and The Butterfly launched in October 2015 and toured the 4 venues until September 2016 to complete the Generation Tour.
We are currently exploring ways to build on the success of the first Generation Tour with future projects. Watch this space!
The partner venues were helped by many supportive organisations to make it all possible.
It was funded by Arts Council England Strategic Touring Fund and local Children’s Centres helped with research and spreading the word.
